  1. Hanging is an execution by suspension, 
  2. usually with a drop of 0.6-2m (2-6ft), so 
  3. that the powerful jerk of the tightened 
  4. rope breaks the neck. This was once a common 
  5. form of capital punishment in Europe and is 
  6. still practised in some states in the USA. 
  7. The UK abolished hangings in 1965.
